Urban Data Management Symposia
Introduction

Since the first edition in 1971, UDMS symposia have been the forum where the development of information systems for local authorities has been presented and discussed. The evolution of design and implementation approaches and of technological solutions is collected in the UDMS proceedings making them both academically interesting and useful for the work of researchers and professionals.

As in UDMS tradition the papers, presented by specialists coming from many different countries, deal with advanced and applied research but also with implementation projects and working experiences.

1971 Bonn
  The role of data banks in urban and regional planning: experiences in a number of cities.

1972 London
  Experiences with urban information Systems; special studies concerninginformation needs, data exchange and software.

1973 Paris
  Systems for city planning and transporto planning: overview of existing information Special study groups dealing with data structures and geocoding.

1974 Madrid
  Experiences with urban information Systems; special studies concerninginformation needs, data exchange and software.

1975 Stockholm
  The comparative study of major urban data management projects with emphasize on the design and the extent to which the systems have met users requirements.

1977 Liège
  Practical applications of urban information systems, in particular of urban data banks.

1979 The Hague
  Exploring new horizons in urban data management, including its theoretical, functional, administrative, political and ethical.

1981 Oslo
  The comparative study of major urban data management projects with emphasize on the design and the extent to which the systems have met users requirements.

1982 Valencia
  Practical applications of urban information systems, in particular of urban data banks.

1984 Padua
  Urban data management and the end users. Special attention to decision support systems, new tools for end-users, information systems for urban and regional planning and land information systems.

1985 The Hague
  Information needs for local authorities, in combination with the 12th meeting of the Spatially Oriented Referencing Systems Association (SORSA). The role of information systems in planning and and decision making in local authorities. The state of the art of present information systems. The aspects affecting the development of information systems.

1987 Blois
  New information technologies for citizens and local authorities. Technologies like automatic cartography, optical devices, artificial intelligence, messaggery tools and intelligent card based systems.

1989 Lisbon
  The development of Urban Information Systems. Standardisation, data requirements and future developments.

1991 Odense
  Technological innovation and new ways of doing things in municipal operation and management. The coordinated approach to local Information systems.

1992 Lyon
  Managing the city of the future. Using data and knowledge bases in urban planning and municipal management in order to improve the quality of life of city-dwellers.

1993 Vienna
  Gis Quo Vadis was the main theme of the conference underlying the discussions on real estate cadaster, environment, transport and traffic and data issues as data quality and data sharing.

1994 Espoo
  Information Resource Mangerment and New Information Sources for the Provision of Urban Information Services. EDI for Urban Management.

In 1994 UDMS joined forces with AM/FM GIS International European Division and EGIS, which resulted in three joint european conferences and exhibition on geographical information:

Following a cooperation started in 1991 with the organizers of MIS 91 in Prague, in 1996 a joint event, MIS/UDMS '96 was held in Prague dealing with information technolgy and services for public administration and the public.
A 29 year tradition is continued.

1999 Venice
  Information Technology in the service of local government planning and management.

2000 Delft
  22nd Urban and Regional Data Management Symposium in combination with the Seminar on Land Markets and Land Consolidation in Central Europe.

2002 Prague
  23nd Urban and Regional Data Management Symposium
30 years of UDMS

in combination with the
3rd Conference on Municipal Information Systems
and the Exhibition - "Digital Town".
